e-bike highs and lows

After many years of messing around and not having exactly the right parts to hand I finally put together an ebike from 2nd hand and repurposed parts.

Motor: Found somewhere on ebay and has moved house at least twice and spent years unloved in sheds and garages.

Bicycle: Elderly Claud Butler Kylami. Its a well built Reynolds tubed bike that should keep going for many years yet. Mix and match parts and some surface rust

Controller: Generic 36/48v chinese one that came without English instructions. It works though.

Batteries: 2 packs of 7s lipo 5ah in series. Repurposed from another project. These only provide around 10 miles of usable range but they work fine and thats plenty for my commute.

Tyres: I am pretty much an evangelical Schwalbe promoter. I've put thousands of miles on the Marathon plus tyres on my touring bike with no punctures.

The other parts a mix and match of shimano bits that came with the bicycle. Nothing matches but it works well after a service.

I know I'm a monster for not taking a drive side photos. Sorry cyclists.

The downside is I got a little too enthusiastic on a potholed gravel road. The motor jumped in the drop outs and the torque arm and spun. Ruining the internal gears. Not a big job to fix but yet more interminable waiting!
